It’s Officially Race Weekend
It’s Friday, which means the IndyCars take to the track for the first official race activities of the season. I’m totally stoked. Here is what’s on tap for the day. Everything should be streaming at IndyCar.com.
- 11:30-1:15 – IndyCar practice
- 4:00-4:30 – IndyCar practice group #1
- 4:30-5:00 – IndyCar practice group #2
- 6:30-8:00 – IndyCar qualifying.
All times are Eastern Daylight Time. Here’s the rest of the schedule [PDF] if you’re interested in the Indy Lights schedule.
As a reminder, this weekend also marks the debut of Indy Race Control. Remember, if you plan on buying it, you can both get the experience and help the site out by ordering it through the banner ads or link on the side bar. I hope to have a review of the service up at some point.
In other news, Tony George was on Cavin’s radio show last night. I didn’t have a chance to hear the whole interview, but even if I did, I probably couldn’t write a review as well as the man who did the interview. The great Curt Cavin has an article up on the interview. Apparently, he’s including the kids more, as he’s stated before that Vision is being developed for Ed after he hangs up his fire suit. He’s also considering, once a title sponsor is secured, a change from the IRL to the IndyCar World Series. This may make Jeff uneasy. He also would like to secure the Vanderbuilt Cup for the series championship. Of course, the argument is that it’s just the rights to the name as the actual Vanderbuilt Cup belongs to the Smithsonian. Finally, according to the article, TG actually admitted fault with 25/8. I’ll have to listen to the podcast to see what he really said, because TG is usually very indirect, particularly in admitting fault.
If you’re in Indy, the IMS is having a viewing party. Apparently, they don’t have viewing parties in Huntsville, AL, unless me walking to the other side of my building to watch with the cat guy constitutes a viewing party.
IndyCar.com has an article previewing the Indy Lights season. I don’t cover the Lights much because I have to draw the line somewhere, but here’s my prediction: Matos. If Raphael Matos doesn’t run away with it, I’d be surprised. That said, here’s to Logan Gomez. Hopefully he can put up a fight and get a ride next year. He’d be marketing gold.
