The 92nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 – Qualifying Weekend 1 Forecast

Good news and bad news.  The 2-Day forecast for Saturday looks pretty similar to yesterday, which is the good news. The bad news is that the 3-Day forecast for Sunday looks the same as yesterday. Model guidance still varies fairly significantly on temperature. One thing to consider, though, is that the speedway is a whole lot of concrete, so the temperatures should be a few degrees warmer than if it were a farm, for example. I also tend to have a bit of a cold bias in my temperature forecasts, so I’m going to bump my Saturday temperature up a few degrees.

Sunday doesn’t look promising.  It looks like there will be a pretty good soaking going on until at least the early afternoon.  Even if it does clear up, though, you’ll probably hear the most dreaded words in Indianapolis:  Weepers in Turn 3.  A few late afternoon attempts may be a slight possibility, but I don’t know at this point if they’d be able to fairly fill up the second eleven.

What happens if a day of qualifying is rained out? Do they move it to a practice day, wait for the next session, assign qualifiers from the previous day or what?

Eh don’t bother I looked it up on wikipedia.
