The 92nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 – Qualifying Weekend 1 Forecast
I’ll tell you what I told Redford: It ain’t gonna happen – A bottle of Newman’s Own salad dressing to Homer Simpson.
I’m not going to tell you to hope for much today. While yesterday was a pretty good forecast on my part, and today isn’t looking half bad in terms of my accuracy, I’m sad to say that I’m probably correct in my assessment that there won’t be much, if any, qualifying today. Nearly three-quarters of an inch of rain has fallen overnight. Thus, the track will be harder to dry than if it were just a pop-up. The sun isn’t going to show its face in any significant way until the rain is completely passed. The speedway may have a window to try and dry the track, but it is fairly limited in time, and will probably just get wet again on the backside of the window. Finally the rain is moving very slowly, and that window may simply not arrive. Is there zero hope? No. Is there 10% hope? That’d be optimistic.
Thus, the official iiMy forecast!
- Approx. Green Flag Time: 12:00 EDT
- Temperature: 57ºF
- Dew Point: 55ºF
- Winds: Southwesterly at 20 mph
- Chance of Rain: 100%
- Will we qualify: All signs point to ‘no’.
