Yellow Pennzoil Cars Pretty Much Rule

In life, there are questions.

What ever happened to the girl from Billy Idol’s Cradle of Love video?

Will I ever get the chance to see Lone Star J. R. drive the Chaparral 2K around the Speedway?

What is Jack Arute doing right now?

OK, while not all questions should be answered, the answer to one of those questions can be answered with the word yes, and it should be pretty obvious which one since it’s the only yes or no question.

To kick off the public sale of tickets to the highlight of 2010, Johnny Rutherford will drive his 1980 race winning car around the speedway for a few laps this Monday, Sept. 14.  Now, I don’t live enough to the motherland to check it out on my lunch break, but if I were, I’d totally go.  If nothing else, J.R. still drives the pace car, so at least he’ll have a good line.  I don’t expect him to go out there and throw it around at speed, but you might get a few more miles per hour than your typical parade lap out of the old guy.  Plus, many, many people consider this the most beautiful race car ever made.  It’s certainly up there. (Update: it looks like the release about the Chaparral running was actually a media advisory, but the museum and surrounding areas are open, so it’d be in your best interest to be outside of the museum in the 2:30-2:45 time frame if you want to go)

Perhaps the better part for many of us is that the Speedway is also providing some compensation to those of us who are physically (though never mentally) disconnected from the speedway.  Also on Monday, they’re going to broadcast a live web-based show over at indycar.com featuring Rutherford from 3:30-4:00 Eastern Time.  Bob Jenkins will host, and you can submit questions for Jenkins to ask by following this link.

It’s a fun exercise by the Speedway, and though the season is still ongoing, we’re a long way from May.  Soak it up.

P. S., the girl from the Cradle of Love video ranks above Tawny Kitaen and Liv Tyler and below Alicia Silverstone if you’re keeping tabs.

I totally considered Freedom ‘90 and concluded that they were too established beforehand to count as video girls.

The Chaparral 2K is one of the prettiest cars in the history of The Speedway. I wish that I lived back in Indianapolis even more now.
