Been Spending Most Our Lives…

…living in a Surfers’ Paradise.

When unification happened, Surfers was the one race I was really, really excited to see in the bankruptcy paperwork.  I’ll defend to this day that it’s the best street circuit in the world.  Former world champion Alan Jones wasn’t upset to see the IndyCars sever ties after a mutually acceptable date couldn’t be agreed upon.  He wanted A1GP there.

Well, A1GP couldn’t muster up the strength to get to Surfers.  I’m not an A1GP blog, so I’m not going to go into details, but they do claim that the rest of the season will happen.  A1GP Team USA Powered By Andretti-Green Racing Which Will Not Be Andretti-Green Racing has been completely silent on the Gold Coast drama.  If the series does take off, there’s no word on if AGR will be a part of it or not.

The Aussie V8 SuperCars will take over the entire weekend. Organizers always argued that the supercars were the draw.  Well, here’s their chance to prove so.  In my little pipe dream world, though, the IndyCars would swoop in and save the international element of the event for 2010.  I think the odds of that are somewhere between Forsythe fielding a car next year in the ICS and Richard Petty winning the deed to IMS in a poker game.

Really, I just wanted to make this picture.
