The Real Internet Will Not Keep Me Down

I saw Cavin’s article yesterday about Sir Randall Bernard’s urge to blow things up, including Mario Andretti’s engine on the backstretch and the acronym IRL.  I, being an old-timey Beavis and Butthead fan, fully support explosions.

What I could have never anticipated is the reactions to such a simple proposal.  I made the mistake of looking at TrackForum in an urge to fulfill my horrific pains of withdrawal with the Month of May being roughly 1/3 complete.  I mean, at this point, I don’t know that there are any videos left on youtube for me to watch.  Well, as of writing, this simple proposal by Bernard has generated 387 posts in a single thread, most of which (from a glance) were filled with hatred and venom.  This is why I don’t read message boards.  Well, this and the blatant hatred on things generally unrelated to racing that are allowed to stew on them.

This crap, along other things including the usually great George Oilpressure’s questioning of the modern relevance of the Indianapolis 500, has me laughing.  Y’all won’t be my buzzkill. I can’t make it past part-way through this stuff.

It’s freaking MAY.  The Pagoda has declared war on negativity, and so will I.  No negativity here, folks.

I’m going to continue dreaming of Jim Nabors and work on how I can turn a wheelchair into a stealth mother cooler to get around IMS’s ridiculous cooler size regulations.

Oh, and Jewel will be singing the national anthem at the race this year.  For those of you who squirm, she’s like Benjamin Button and ages backwards in time.  She looks a whole lot better these days than she did when she was saving our souls.  I think she’s also all country these days.

Negativity? No! No negativity. Just mostly playing devil’s advocate. Besides…I felt like I had to come back with some meat, after my lame Will Overhead article from yesterday. Still plenty of love for the Month of May.

Isn’t it ironic that the guy who wants to everyone to stop using “IRL” came from a company called “PBR”?

I like Marco and John, but is it negative to want to hear, “Andretti is slowing on the backstretch” uttered on the PA again this year. Its been too long since I last heard that and its as much a part of tradition as Jim and Flo singing on race day.

If it is negative then strike it from the blog. I will not partake in negativity either. I think I had the only postive rant ever posted on Miller’s blog some time back.

I take that back, there was a short positive rant in the mailbag today. Oh, well. There went my 2 seconds of interweb fame.
