Acronyms

In the world of American Open Wheel Racing (AOWR), there are many, if not too many, acronyms. Below is a list:

  • ICS - IndyCar Series. The premiere (major) league of the Indy Racing League
  • IPS - Indy Pro Series. The developmental (minor) league of the Indy Racing League
  • CCWS - Champ Car World Series. The second premiere AOWR series in the United States. Formerly CART.
  • CCA - Champ Car Atlantics. The developmental league of the CCWS.
  • IMS - Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The home of the Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400, and MotoGP Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Former home of the United States Grand Prix (F1)
  • F1 - Formula 1. The premiere worldwide open wheel road racing series. Known for its high costs, technological advancements, and goofy management
  • IRL - Indy Racing League. The umbrella league of the ICS and IPS. Formerly, the IRL was essentially the ICS
  • TG - Tony George (The Mutants often go with FTG. I’ll allow you to guess the F), owner of the IMS and the IRL
  • KK - Kevin Kalkhoven, Co-owner of the CCWS
  • GF - Gerald (Gerry) Forsythe, Co-owner of the CCWS
  • PG - Paul Gentilozzi, minor co-owner of CCWS
  • RM - Robin Miller, journalist known for being a former writer for CCWS and currently for speedtv.com. Since being fired by CCWS, he also occasionally gets the FRM moniker.
  • PT - Paul Tracy, loyal CCWS Canadian driver.
  • AR1 - AutoRacing1.com, a website with high subscription fees and a rumor section that is often just that, rumor. People have a tendency to jump on AR1 rumors as truth, not through the fault of AR1
  • TF - TrackForum.com forums
  • CCF - ChampCarFanatics.com forums
  • DP - Worst acronyms in AOWR. I’ve seen it refer to Danica Patrick, Dr. Don Panoz, and Dan Pettit, at the very least.
  • TCGR - Target Chip Ganassi Racing. An ICS team.
  • N/H/L - Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing. A CCWS team
  • D&R - Dreyer and Reinbold Racing. An ICS team.
  • DW - Derrick Walker. Owner of Walker Racing/Team Australia currently in CCWS. Not to be confused with NASCRAP.
  • AGR - Andretti Green Racing. An ICS team owned by Michael Andretti, Kim Green, and Kevin Savoree.
  • PCM - Pacific Coast Motorsports. Alex Figge’s dad’s CCWS team.
  • KVR - Kalkhoven-Vasser Racing, formerly PKV Racing
  • TK - Tony Kanaan, driver for AGR
